I dont know if your question can be answered here but here is something as a tip. I am assuming you are talking as a Report spec
Split you report into breakable components like and organize your functional spec in the following areas -
Selection criteria (prompts),
Business Rules that define your report's components,
Data Elements that you report will use,
Totals and Subtotals
Grouping
Sorting and sequence
etc
Be sure to have assumptions section and issues section
It usually depends on the industry to have industry specfic sections.
