Hi all,
We have migrated from 8.4 to 10.2.1 for which we took a back up of the content store of cognos 8.4 and restored it on the new content store database for cognos 10.2.1.
after the configuration of cognos, when we log on to the cognos connection in version 10.2.1 we observed that the security assigned for the user is not getting updated in the new version of cognos whereas the reports are getting migrated.
in cognos 8.4 the authentication was configured on NTLM, which is not supported in 10.2.1, so we configured the same namespace on Active Directory in version 10.2.1
is it bcoz of which the security details are not getting updated ? Request you to guide us with the same.
Thanks in advance.
Regards

Hi,
Security is based internally on CAMIDs. Since you are using a different authentication provider, all of the CAMIDs for this will be different than the ones for your NTLM namespace. Although you may have users with the same names, they will not be the same users as far as Cognos is concerned.
Migrating users from one authentication namespace to another is not an easy task. There are third-party utilities that can help you with this - BSP Metamanager is one example:
http://www.bspsoftware.com/Products/MetaManager/Secure
and Motio have a solution too
http://www.motio.com/products/cognosNamespaceMigration.do
You're either going to have to pay for utilities like this, or do all of the hard work manually in re-defining the security for the "new" set of users.
Cheers!
MF.
Thanks once again. You have always been there to guide us with our issues.
