Title: How to convert maps for Cognos Map Manager
Post by: b737 on 05 Aug 2014 12:03:04 PM
Hi,

I have maps which are created in ArcGis and I need to convert it in MapInfo and than to use it in Cognos Map Manager. Since I am not familiar with MapInfo can someone give me some detail information how to do that in MapInfo.

Thanks

Hi,

Converting a file from ArcGis to Mapinfo format is nothing to do with Cognos or Map Manager. You would probably be better asking on a forum for ArcGis or Mapinfo?

A quick google of converting from ArcGis to Mapinfo led me to this:

Cheers!

I know that ArcGIS can do this for you without requiring MapInfo. I told an ArcGIS person I needed MapInfo shapefiles including a GST file and he knew what to do. Note: use File > Import to get the MapInfo files into Map Manager.

If you don't have ArcGIS, I have no idea if MapInfo can read them. You might try QGIS to convert them (I've not done this, just know of the software).

Like MFGF said you may have to look around Esri, MapInfo, or GIS-oriented forums.

First, thank you for all answers.

I do not work in ArcGis and I do not know anything about it. My GIS department says that they do not know how to convert map in TAB format. So I want to give them tutorial, if it is possible to do that in ArcGis or in MApInfo

This was written for 8.x but I am sure it still applies as the mapping utilities have had few if any changes.

Thanks. I have found this great tutorial, with detail instruction how to convert, and then import in Cognos Map manager, and refine.
