Title: Creating Distribution Lists in Cognos Connection

Hi,

We would like to give users the ability to create their own distribution lists.

User Guide states:

In IBM Cognos Connection, in the upper-right corner, click Launch, IBM Cognos Administration.

However, we don't want users to have admin rights.

Is there any (easy) way for users to create their own distribution lists without giving them admin rights?

You can grant them selective access to 'Distribution Lists and Contacts'. Just add them to a Cognos Group, say DL_Users.

1. Under Cognos Administration go to Security --> Capabilities --> Administration
2. Set Properties --> Permissions : Add DL_Users and grant Execute and Traverse access.
3. Next, go to 'Distribution Lists and Contacts' under Administration capability and change permissions. Add DL_Users and grant appropriate access (RWXT).

By doing this users will have access to the Cognos Administration screen, but will see only 'Distribution Lists and Contacts' under it.

You also need to review your license entitlements very carefully. I have a strong concern that granting your users *any* of the capabilities under the Administration grouping would require each of them to hold an Administrator license. If you grant them Admin capabilities without them having the necessary license, you are heading for a world of pain and expense if/when IBM perform a Software License Review.
