Title: Attributes or Identifiers?
Post by: Sebbies on 25 Jun 2007 09:56:43 AM

Please attention for the following;

When a Framework is based on Views and not on tables. Only dates will pass though as identifiers in FM because it cannot recognize others anymore.

Cognos says that these properties has to be set like,

•   For a query item that is part of a key in a determinant, participates in a relationship, or is the data type date or time, the Usage property is set to Identifier and the Regular Aggregate property is set to Count.
•   For a query item that is the data type numeric or time interval, the Usage property is set to Fact and the Regular Aggregate property is set to Automatic if it is a calculation and Sum if it is not a calculation.
•   If none of the above applies, the Usage property is set to Attribute and the Regular Aggregate property is set to Unsupported.

However the difference in generated SQL, whether an item is an identifier or an attribute, (native and cognos) does not change a thing! The only difference that I notice is the dimension image in identifiers in query/report studio.

Does anyone know what the impact will be if I set all queryitems as attributes besides the image in the report tools?

Thanks in advance!
