I am using cognos 10.2.1 Verison of Cognos with SQL Server 2012 as Data Source.
I have been facing loads of issues time and again and it makes me believe this is a Crappy Product 10.2.1.
I am 50% done with my FM Model, Now i am facing challenge to Import table .
The FM Freeze while i try to import a Table.
Please help if any one is Facing the issue.
Perhaps you have a Crappy Installation. Among other sources, I use various versions of SQL Server with FM all the time for the last 5 years, and do not recall ever having it freeze on a table import.
Are you running Cognos on a server with the correct, supported software?
Does your hardware - server and client - have adequate capacity?
Do you have the correct database drivers installed on both the Cognos server and the machine on which you run FM?
What permissions does your login have to the source database? Preferably db_owner, if not what roles/permissions do you have?
Are you running Cognos on a server with the correct, supported software? - Yes I Am using the Supported Software, The only thing i was able to find out is My Machine on which Server is installed is 32 BIT and server 64 Bit, Does that impact?

What permissions does your login have to the source database? Preferably db_owner, if not what roles/permissions do you have? Yes we have db_owner right.
- The 32/64-bitness of the host OS will not likely be of consequence for your particular problem.
- db_owner is 'best' in terms of not having permissions issues, so that is good.
- If you open SSMS using the login with db_owner, can you do a simple "select top 100 * from mytable" successfully?
- There are multiple ways to bring in a new table to an FM model. What steps are you using?

10.2.1 had issues when it was released first time but not this kind of issue and it is definately not a crappy product. I have seen the issue of freezing not only in FM but also in Report Studio. Though I do not have a technical answer for this but the
common factor I noticed during the 'freeze' time was that the DB table was locked by another process and in another case, the DB was being re-started and Cognos did not give any error but rather just stalled.
Just to close the thread, After 6 months of troubleshooting .
IBM was able to fix the issue by just increasing Memory on the local machine.
Memory was low and it took 6 months to find that out ! Never heard of that one before ;D
