Title: Year over Year by Month
Post by: bberryhill on 07 May 2014 09:50:19 AM
I am using a cube generted from Transformer and the Time dimension it creates.

I am trying to produce a bar graph that compares the quantity for each month to the quantity for the same month.  I attached an example.
The chart also calculates the % change from each month and includes that as a line.

My problem is getting the same months from the two years together so I can calculate the % change.  Transformer has some great Year-to-Year, Month-To-Month built-in functions but I can't seem to get a current month to same month prior year.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

You can add a new month dimension to the cube that includes just the 12 months Jan, Feb, etc. as members without any year component.

Then combine that with the year level of your time dimension.

Thanks Lynn - that is the solution I wound up with.

Hello Lynn,

I am looking for the same solution too.  I using dimensional package with time Dimension year-quartal, year-month components.

That's mean i must changes and add a new nembers into my ''package''? Ist there another way without to change the 'Package'?

thnx

I was not able to find another way. I suppose if you could figure out how to create sets for each month by finding the appropriate members across all years and then aggregating metrics around those sets it might work.

I think the likes of Paul or Nimrod or the Muppet might be better resources on this type of question. Actually they are better resources on virtually all questions  :D

did you look at the ParallelPeriod function?

Also, we figured out a way to use special categories in Transformer and we set up a rolling 24 month special that has 12 months under it and each as two children, CY & PY.

Better? Than you? The Muppet? I think you're hallucinating! Not in a month of Sundays! :) I'm hugely flattered but laughing out loud at the idea :D
