They are things being run "live" by users in their browser window rather than things that have been submitted to run as a background task. For example, if you click the "run with options" button for a report and select "View the report now" it will run interactively in your browser. If you click "run with options" and select "Save the report" it will run as a background process. Of course, all scheduled reports run as background processes.
