Title: difference between data item and parameter in report studio

Please tell the difference between data item value and parameter, as i have done practically, but not abel to differentiate them.
Please elaborate it.

Data Item value is the value of a column or field or calculated column whereas parameter value is the value received
from the user when the user chooses some value from the prompt.
