Hi Guys,
I am new to Cognos and Dashboard features in general. I have earlier experience in Jasper reports.
My query is, What is the best way to make dashboards.
I mean by using report studio components or Active reports.
Which way is better for viewing reports on mobile application ?
The whole idea is to make that dashboard available on iPad and Mobile applications.
Also, what native cognos mobile application do we use for Blackberry ?
Thanks,
Sujit
Active reports are self-contained and not connected to any data source; they are a snapshot of data at the point-in-time they were generated. If you need live data, active reports are not an option and you will want to use Report Studio reports (perhaps in Cognos Workspace).
Mobile support is somewhat dependent on the version of Cognos you have on your server, with the best support generally in the latest release (as you would expect). You will want to view the documentation for mobile specific to your Cognos version. Short answer: iOS and Android devices have apps in their official app stores. BB I believe still requires a push from BES but as I have not used BB in some time I may be wrong on that. And you might be able to use mobile device web browsers for a generic approach, but how well this works depends on the browser in question and the version of Cognos you have installed, as well as how you design the reports (e.g. in-line prompting can be problematic in older versions). Again, see the documentation for your version.
My perspective on dashboards is that IBM would like you to use Cognos Workspace. Older techniques included the simple dashboards you can create directly in Cognos Connection, or something I have seen people do is using Report Studio reports made to work like a dashboard. We are about to give Workspace a shot on a mobile-based project, so I'll have a much better idea in a couple of months. 8)
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the reply, sire. :)
Will wait for more replies, as my project is starting soon.
