Title: Drill down reports in Report Studio
Post by: czaarsvk on 10 Mar 2014 06:15:40 PM
HI guys, in order to create a drill down report (State-->City-->Zip). IS it a must to create dimension hierarchy inside the framework model (relational model) and use that dimension model? Or is there another easy way. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You need a defined hierarchy to be able to drill down and up, as drilling down and up is really navigating through the levels of a hierarchy. One option is to morel your data as regular dimensions and measure dimensions in FM and publish a package containing these. Another option is to get the data into an OLAP cube of some sort and report off this.

If you don't have the ability to do any of these, an alternative option might be to utilise drill-through - have one report with State values, another with City values and a third with Zip values, and allow your user to drill through from a state to see the cities and from a city to see the zip codes.

Cheers!
