Hi,

Traps is a term used to describe issues in the design of the metadata model that may cause problems if not investigated and resolved. A Transitive Relationship Trap, for example, describes multiple relationship paths between two objects. Which relationship path will be used when a user brings in items from those two objects into a report? If it's not consistent and/or correct, how will you modify the model to make sure the correct path is always used? These are the kinds of things a good modeller will look out for. Other things commonly encountered are chasm traps and fan traps.

These are the kinds of things you will learn about when you attend the Metadata Modelling course IBM have designed. It's well worth the time and cost if you have little experience with similar tools to FM and the concepts of modelling relational metadata.

Cheers!

MF.
