Title: Can I upgrade the Content Store database more than once after 10.2.1 install?
Post by: KS on 11 Feb 2014 06:50:52 AM
Hi,

We are upgrading from Cognos 8.2 to Cognos 10.2.1.  We've installed 10.2.1 in our dev environment and used a back-up of our Cognos8.2 Content Store. The Content Store was upgraded to 10.2.1 on the install of 10.2.1.  Now that I've cleaned up some users in Cognos8 and made some changes to the Public Folder directories, I would like to take a fresh back-up of our Cognos8 Content Store and copy it over to the 10.2.1 environment.

Would this work? Would the Content Store automatically get upgraded again when I stop and start the Cognos 10.2.1 service? Or, would I have to do the install again with the newest Cognos8 Content Store back -up?

Thanks for any advice....

KS

Hi,

Yes, this should work. You can restore the backup of your 8.2 content store into your existing 10.2.1 instance. If this is a full content backup it will effectively replace the content of the entire instance, and upgrade the specs during the process. You won't need to stop and start the Cognos 10 service - the upgrade will happen as part of the restore. You definitely don't need to do a new install of Cognos 10.

To be safe, take a backup of your existing Cognos 10 content store before you begin. That way you can always go back to it if something bad happens.

Good luck!
