Title: Cognos is not starting after a forceful reboot of the server!
Post by: Nithesh UC on 13 Jan 2014 03:38:45 AM
Hi Guys,
In our environment cognos is installed on different servers. The cognos services were working fine until I restarted the servers, Since the servers were hanged we end up in doing a forceful restart of servers and couldn't follow the usual procedure to stop the cognos services.
Now after doing a restart of the cognos services, when I hit the cognos url I can see an error saying that "The IBM Cognos gateway is unable to connect to the IBM Cognos BI server. The server may be unavailable or the gateway may not be correctly configured".

Please let me know your views which helps me to sort this out.

Regards,
UCN

Hi,

If you have a multi-server architecture, did you start the server hosting Content Manager before you attempted to start the others? What errors (if any) are you seeing in cogserver.log on each server? Is the Cognos 10 service running on some servers but not others?

MF.

Hi MF,
Thanks for your response.
After the forceful servers restart, I started the cognos services in the standard order only(CM->App->GW).
When i saw the logs I can see some errors and after googled the same i got to know that they are not vital.
PFA attachment for the same.
Indivitual cognos components are running fine and when i hit the URL i can even see the cognos splash screen followed by the error mentioned.
Not have much idea about what has gone wrong behind the screen.

UCN

Have you checked that the Cognos 10 service started and is running on both the CM server and the App server? What do you see if you enter the dispatcher URI of the App server into your browser? Do you get a page rendered with all the images missing, or do you see an error?

Yes Cognos is up and running on both the servers.
When I hit the Dispatcher URI of App server I can only able to see the screen "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"..

Please check if any firewall settings has been changed or reset because server reboot.

Few days back I also faced similar issue. I was able to RDC server but I was not able to ping the same server from command prompt.

Check if you can ping the servername or ip address from the command prompt.

My case was like you only, all services were running fine but cognos was down, when i found that I am not able to ping servers, I contacted windows team and they said some firewall was open. And they closed it, issue resolved.

Unfortunately they did not provide me much details what was the exact issue on server :(

Unfortunately I'm able to ping all the servers. So I guess it is not the issue with the firewall also!
