Title: Help!! Error CFG-ERR-0106 when starting Cognos
Post by: Jean5 on 10 Jan 2014 08:34:17 AM
Hello,

I have installed Cognos 10 on my server (windows 2008 server) and when I start Cognos I get the following error in Cognos Configuration:

[Start Service]
[ ERROR ] CFG-ERR-0106 IBM Cognos Configuration did not receive a response from the IBM Cognos service in the time allotted.
Check that IBM Cognos service is available and properly configured.

Despite this error, I can access to Cognos Connection without problem.

Actually my server is empty, so I don't know which could be the impact of this error..

Can anybody help me to understand why it is happening?

Many thanks in advance!

I'm assuming this is on Windows.

This can happen if the services take a while to start (high java mem setting). This is due to windows having a specific time that services "should" start in.

Shouldn't be anything major to worry about provided your services do stat and you are able to access the services without issue.

Thanks for your response,

Actually my Cognos server is empty and my concern is that this error gives me problems later on..

I hope that you are right. Anyway, I would be more relaxed if I could fix this error!

It's an error from Windows hitting it's default timeout waiting ffor the service to start. If you can figure out how to change the windows timeout that will make the issue disappear. Otherwise (as Grim mentioned) it's nothing to worry about (as long as the Cognos 10 service starts eventually).

Cheers!

MF.

I "think" this is the right KB, but I haven't tested to confirm.
