Hi,
I have inherited few reports from another user who has now left the organization. He is the owner of these reports. I am the system admin. When i open these reports using report studio, it shows a lock sign and none of the menu options is clickable.Even the lock sign is not clickable. I want to be able to edit these reports. How should i proceed?
Thanks in advance
Are you set up as a Cognos administrator? If so it should be overriding any permissions and allowing you to do pretty much anything.
If you want to make yourself owner and have "Set Policy" permissions to the report, go to the report properties. On the General tab beside "Owner" you should have a link "Make me the owner". Click it, then click OK and try opening it in Report Studio again.
Are those reports in disabled state ?
But even if those are disabled if you have admin rights to cognos, you can edit those.
Still if those are disabled, you can enable them by going to properties option.
Do you have any version control software from BSP or Motio installed?

Thanks for your reply.
The situation goes like this :
I have two namespace eg. A and B. I have reports in Cognos which were authored by my peer. That person has now left the organisation. This person belongs to namespace A . I am the admin in the namespace B. When i open a report that belongs to this user using the report studio, it doesn't show anything except a lock sign. This lock sign is also not clickable. Then i became the owner of this report (as an admin) but still i am unable to edit this report using report studio.
Hi,
If you are a member of the System Administrator's role, it doesn't matter which namespace your login belongs to - you have super-powers to see and do everything.
I suspect Paul has the answer. Can you find out about whether you have version control software from BSP or Motio installed (as he asked above)?

Hi ,
We dont have any version control software as of now..
Can you post a screenshot of the problem? Without version control, there shouldn't be any way of locking functionality in Report Studio.
Since it is being said that having two namespaces doesn't have any affect. Guys please help here???

It looks to me like you simply need to open the relevant report from here. What happens if you click the "open" button and select the desired report?

Hi MF,
None of the buttons...neither open, nor file (for that matter...no button) is clickable..what to do now??
Thanks
What roles does your login belong to? Are you definitely a member of the System Administrator role?
MF.
yes i am system admin..one more thing...when i open the report studio, none of the buttons in the toolbar of report studio is working. I cannot even make a new report in report studio..does any one know what settings do i need to change so that i am able to make a report using report studio
The "NEW" and "OPEN" icons are clickable.
NEW - icon that looks like a bond paper with upper right corner folded
OPEN - icon that looks like a folder with a blue arrow that seems to say "open the folder"
click them and something will happen
I just noticed in your screenshot that you appear to be using an older version of Firefox. Have you tried this with a more recent version, or with a recent version of Internet Explorer? I do recall seeing GUI behavior like you are describing back when using earlier versions of both Cognos and Firefox. Make sure the version of Firefox you are on is supported for Report Studio on the version of Cognos you are using (I assume 10.x).
I normally use Firefox myself, but when I get odd things happening my first step in troubleshooting is to try IE. Worth a shot.
