Title: Framework Segmentation
Post by: snies on 21 Dec 2013 12:50:35 PM
We are looking into having multiple people work on our model simultaneously. Since we are working on separate areas we thought that segmentation may be the best way to do this. After reviewing the documentation about how to do this, we are wondering if we can incorporate the segmented pieces back into the model when the development is complete. The documentation does not deal with this. It only talks about how to segment the model. Does anyone have any experience with this? Can we put the model back together or once it is segmented is it always segmented?

Thanks!

There is a document on multi-developer setup on developerworks that may or may not help. It's a bit more detailed than FM help.

http://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/dw/dm/cognos/modeling/design/enabling_a_multi-developer_environment.pdf (http://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/dw/dm/cognos/modeling/design/enabling_a_multi-developer_environment.pdf)

Alternatively, you could apply the model transaction logs from the separate models into a "master" model to merge things back together. See menu item Project > View Transaction History... to get an idea of what the transaction logs include. Or view FM help under Project management, Synchronizing projects. In my view it is somewhat fragile, prone to human error, and can be a bit of a headache, but could be done. I have done it on rare occasions and it can work, but I would look to other solutions first.

Hope that helps.
