Title: Licence Type Question
Post by: pumccg on 21 Nov 2013 10:12:00 PM
An old client, currently on Cognos 8.4.1, using Report Studio/Query Studio/Analysis Studio, and lots of FWM  and Transformer models, has been advised by IBM that when they upgrade to 10.2.? they'll need to upgrade their licences to "IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Advanced Limited Use Processor Value Unit (PVU) from Tier 1 Trade Up Licence". I can't find anywhere what such a licence enables a holder to do. Can anyone shed some light on this matter?

Hi,

I don't think they have given you the full title of the license. The one I assume this refers to is:

Program Name: IBM Cognos Business Intelligence Advanced Business Author Limited Use 10.2.1
Program Number: 5724-W12

You can find the details of this here:

Click on Submit at the bottom of the page to view the entitlements.

Cheers!

MF, I've checked that document. Interesting approach in that it tells you what each type can't do, as opposed to what each can do. Apart from that I'm sure we can now deduce what we need. Many thanks once again. I've not been directly involved with licence issues since 2006. Hasn't it changed!

It's a bizarre system IBM now use - detailing what each license *can't* do rather than what it's capabilities allow. It takes a little getting your head around at first, and it turns the old Cognos way of licensing on it's head!

Good luck!!!
