Title: how to show entire legend in charts
Post by: iceacman on 31 Oct 2013 04:28:34 AM
Hello,
I'm using cognos 10.2.0, and facing the problem of legend.
for some chart,we have some long names for legends, with the default setting of truncation, it will just display a part of the legend
eg. instead of showing 'the mobile average for the year xxxx',it shows 'the mobile average...'
I've tried to set the truncation to manuel and set the maximum caracter to 500,far beyond what we need, but it's still truncated.

from the snapshot attached, there are still lots of avaible space at the right side....i don't know understand why Cognos just doesn't take the advantage of that...

ps:i'm using relative location property of relocating the legends

Is it a bar chart?  Do you have the small icon under the series? Click on it, check the properties. There is a Maximum Characters and a Truncation Test. Change them.

thanks but actually, in the version cognos 10.2 there is no such option.
i verified it in cognos 8,it works well if i disable the auto truncation...it's just we don't have the option in cognos 10.2..
so i'm wondering if there is a workaround or something..

i dont know if you looked at the size of the chart, since you have your legend rendered at the bottom of the chart, it(chart's size) overrides the text truncation property even after you set it to manual. for your reference i am attaching screenshot below

The version I'm using is 10.1.1. I have that in any type of chart. Wish you good luck with 10.2

We are on 10.2 and I have truncation options in the properties window.

It seems like in this forum, every attachment is stored as a temporary file. The attachment that Grim attached is similar to mine. He showed there is a small legend icon inside the chart and below the series even in 10.2. That is where you can set the legend length.
