Hi cognos gurus  Iam new  2 cognos , so can anybody tell  me the  Limitations  in drill through reports  and advantages in the drill through reports.

A drill-through report  basically allows you to 'zoom in' on loads of details of one single 'high level' entity (value). The benefit within Cognos is that the zoom layout may be totally different from the parent report. If you are new  to Cognos I would concentrate on other matters, though   ;)

Suppose the main report stores revenues and costs for a range of years occupying a single page. You could define a child report that shows detail information for each year (for instance using graphs) using month as a sectioned layout. With a drillthrough defined on the year, the user can then zoom in on a specific years' details.  You can thus pass-through data-items values  or  parameter values (for instance from the main report prompt)
