Title: Regular dimensions in framework manager
Post by: Sep2013 on 12 Sep 2013 05:36:10 PM
Hi all,

I have 5 members in a table naming product class, plan name, product group , product subclass and market.

There is a requirement where i have to create a hierarchy using product group -> product class ->plan name,

But market and product subclass have multiple parents so they cannit be a part of hierarchy but they are required for filtering purposes.

Can you please help me in understanding how to handle this in modelling?

You can define single level dimensions for these to be used as slicers. Put them within a folder that designates 'To be used as slicers'..

Thanks blom, if i just drag market and subclass to all levels with "no role" . Would that work?

Probably not. That has nothing to do with my suggested solution. the no role only allows displaying attributes within a dimensional analysis..

Yes yes yes.. :) the right word...  Subclass and market are attributes of all members of hierarchy (plan name, group and class)...

(Subclass and market have multiple parents thus not part of hierarchy)

Would it work in this case.. :):):)

I think all blom0344 is saying is make two new dimensions with one level each. And the source for those two levels would be a query subject based on your table.

SubclassesMarkets
SubclassMarket
