Title: Returning back to Seach Items
Post by: jafa1970 on 14 Aug 2013 08:03:01 PM
Hi, after selecting a search result, I cannot seem to get back to the original search results.  Hitting the Back button results in "Web page expired". Even using next/previous does not move between the search results, I am assuming it goes to the next topic in the master listing.

Searching is a key function as it reduces the number of duplicate posts, if searching is this hard it does not encourage one to see if the issue has been address before.

Cheers

I totally agree on this!! I end up opening links in a new tab in order to preserve the search results.

We feel your pain!! A couple of us on the moderator team are working through the member list, identifying spam bot generated accounts and deleting them. We are using the search tool extensively for this, and resorting to Lynn's approach of having two sessions open - one for the search and the other for deleting the accounts. It think it's a feature of the SMF forum software rather than anything that can be tweaked by the admins.

One additional apsect that would improve the use of Searching is to include the # of responses for the thread that the search result has come from.

I find I am clicking on a result link only to find that there are no responses, just the initial post.  Given there are many posts on this forum with no responses, this would be a useful improvment to utilising the Search functionality.
