Title: Cognos 8.2 setup
Post by: shri on 15 May 2007 10:23:23 PM
Hi all,

I need to setup Cognos 8.2 on Windows 2003 Server (Dell server PE2850, Intel Xeon CPU 3.20 Ghz , 4.00Ghz RAM, 500Gz Hard disk). I have got 15 to 20 end users, they will be accessing cubes and reports. There will be only one administrator (Developer as well). The  problem is, the above server is only resource i am going to get. It 's going to be my Webserver, Report server, Query server( data source), Modelling server(MM)...all in one. Will this going to work efficiently, or should i ask for one more server.

Thanks in advance

15 to 20 users, you should be just fine.  The only caveat is we have not done any metric modeling.  We actually had about 200 hitting a one box environment with less umph than you currently have.  The problem we did run into though was long running reports.  If you have many of those with sorting, you may have a bogged down server, of which the users may not be happy.  The nice thing about cubes and Analysis studio is that is more of an IE memory hog instead of really competing for server time.

Make sure you configure your Server in Cognos Connection with the correct affinity request amounts as well as number of report/batch report processes and you should be fine.

Good Luck! ;D
