Title: Drill up across different hierarchies
Post by: Rosanero4Ever on 18 Jul 2013 05:37:19 AM
Hi all,

I would like build analyzes which use a dimension represented in DMR as follows:

All Regions   All Groups
Region         Group
Customer     Customer

So I can perform drill down/up starting from Regions or Groups until to the Customers.
If I reach a Customer starting from Region is possible perform a drill up to the Group changing the hierarchy?
I hope my explanation is clear
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi you can do this if you change the way the drill up/downs work.   Try replacing the expression or replacing the item. You may need to try using defined member sets as well.  Take a look at this best practice doc  http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/cognos/page147.html

Hi,
many thanks for your advice.
I just read this doc but it is referred only to Report Studio.
Shall I obtain what I want using Analisys Studio or Cognos Insight/Workspace?
Thanks for your time.

you didn't mention you were using analysis studio.  I don't know how this will work in AS.

Analysis Studio doesn't offer this degree of control. It is designed to be a business user tool so it keeps things simple. The same goes for Cognos Workspace Advanced (Business Insight Advanced). The benefit of this, though, is that it shares the same report spec as Report Studio, meaning you may be able to open the report in RS, add in the relevant member sets etc, save the report, then continue to maintain it in CWA/BIA.

Cheers!

MF.
