We want to put the Cognos Reporting Database on a dedicated SQL Enterprise server that is running other SQL instances with allocated memory to each SQL instance and sharing CPU resources. There are no other applications besides SQL on this server.
That dedicated server has all the other databases. We are thinking to add the Cognos reporting database on the same server as well...
I always think that based on the best practice, the reporting database should be on the separate server. It should be seperate from the other databases.
Is there any recommendation for using the separate server for the reporting database?
That would entirely depend on the activity and load of the other databases on the server.. A dedicated database server just for the reporting database will always be the 'best' solution, but the gain may be not warrant the additional costs.
