Title: How can I choose the SQL style ?
Post by: plc on 30 Apr 2007 03:25:53 AM
Hi all,

this is my first post in this forum and I new to Cognos.

The scenario: Cognos 8, SQLServer 2000

We've changed an existing package to use our own OLAP server instead of SQLServer as data source (but the content store stays on SQLServer). The connection type chosen for the data source is  "ODBC (Windows only)" and is set to our own ODBC driver.

Now, simple stuff works perfectly in Report Studio (or Query Studio), but as soon as things gets a little more complex (e.g. joins are required), we notice that Cognos is dropping ODBC grammar (e.g. "{oj outer-join}" escape sequences for outer joins).

We haven't implemented ODBC grammar, we want to stay as compatible with SQLServer as possible. Is there any way we can tell Cognos to generate the same SQL style on
our server as it is on SQLServer ?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Patrick

You may adjust some of its behavior in COGDMOD.INI. There are sections related to ODBC joins. To play it safe, you probably should create a section for your specific driver, since changing this file affects all ODBC connections. There is no documentation available, but some details have been included in file.
