Title: Please help!! can't start cognos server anymore :(

Hi All!

am new in this forum and i wish you help me with this issue.

I try to connect the source data with framework manager but when i connected i got this error QE-DEF-0368 Unable to decrypt user name and password credentials from the content store.

I found a solution from IBM support said;
. Close Framework Manager and stop any Cognos ReportNet or BI Server service on the laptop.

2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to <install location>\crn\configuration directory.

3. Delete these three folders: csk, encryptkeypair, signkeypair.

4. Open Cognos Configuration, input the configuration of the target server, and click Save.

5. Start Cognos ReportNet or BI Server service and retry connecting with Framework Manager.

So i deleted the CSK folder and other but now cognos configuration is not working anymore
its show me this error when i tried to start the server, it  said " Problems were encountered during validation.CAM-CRP-1064 Unable to process the PKCS #7 data because of an internal error. Unable to find the common symmetric key with alias 'V3QvVBkAdUwT92kC6LNeVbsGsyk=' in the keystore 'C:/Program Files/ibm/cognos/c10_64/configuration/csk\jCSKKeystore'.
The parameter named 'External JMX credential' located in 'Environment' is currently invalid.CAM-CRP-1064 Unable to process the PKCS #7 data because of an internal error. Unable to find the common symmetric key with alias 'V3QvVBkAdUwT92kC6LNeVbsGsyk=' in the keystore 'C:/Program Files/ibm/cognos/c10_64/configuration/csk\jCSKKeystore'.
The parameter named 'Shared secret' located in 'Portal Services' is currently invalid.CAM-CRP-1064 Unable to process the PKCS #7 data because of an internal error. I can't restore the folder because i delete them and it is not appear in the recycle! Also, i didn't create a backup to restore it!! Please help me i really don't know what to do to make cognos working again

Did you only delete csk, or did you delete all three?

Make sure all three folders are deleted, and only those three. Next, rename cogstartup.xml to cogstartup.xml.bak. Open Cognos Configuration again, and redo all of the settings. Save and you should be good to go.

I deleted all the three folder, but i didn't change the name.

I just changed the name as you mentioned, and when i started Cgonos configuration, i got this message;

The configuration data did not load.

The configuration files could not be located.

The default configuration files will be created.

then i tried to started the server, and give me all corrcet except when it come to start the server, this is the process in details;

You need to recreate all of the settings. Check the dispatcher and gateway URIs (they default to localhost), create the connection to the content manager database. If you have, create the connections to the audit and notification databases. Set up your authentication provider. Set up the SMTP server.

If you don't know the correct settings, open up cogstartup.xml.bak in notepad and read the settings from there. You won't be able to see the passwords for the connections, as those are encrypted, but you should be able to recreate everything else.

But I did the same steps many times and can't resolve the error.

I don't know, where should I start from...

Please try to copy the deleted folders from some other server ? did you try this ?

Also if you are going to rename cogstarup.xml file, please make sure to take backup of configuration. Renaming congstarup.xml file is nothing but the backup. Along with this take screenshots of your whole configuration.

Also save the configuration from file menu --
Open the confuguration
Go to file-->save the configuration. It will ask you to wether to save the configuration in decrypted mode. Say yes and save that file.

Now once you rename the cogstarup.xml file, you can open the obove saved file from configuration. And you will have the screenshots also if you miss anything.

  i tried that way...But no lucks...

can you please let me know whether do the cognos configuration form frmaework manager or cognos server.

FYI- I could see csk, encrptkeypair,signkeypair in cognos configuration from cognos server. But couldn't see csk except signkeypair, encryptkaypair in cognos configuration from framework manage. Also, i have deleted the AD namesapce from cognos configuration.
And also deleted everyone group from sysadmin role because of  AD namespace access.

So, is that causing error.

please help me..................................

Framework manager configuration and server configuration are totally different things.

For which exactly you are facing issue to start?  FM or cognos server ?

If cognos server, then first we should concentrate on it. You are saying you deleted AD namespace, so the server should be the the content manager server. You will need this AD namespace..right ? so you can configure it. What about the remaining servers ? All other servers are fine ?

  WE have 2 servers both have FM and Cognos server. But different gatway URI one is cognos.cgi and an another one is cognosisapi.dll.

The cognos.cgi gatway URI is working fine. But the Gateway URI cognosisapi.dll is not working.

The other server(cognos.cgi) is working fine and if I add everyone group on to sysadmin then I can access the BI portal.

But, cognosisapi.dll - here, I ahve deleted the AD namespace and removed everyone group from sysadmin role. But, first I have to restart the server with anonymous access. In FM cognos configuration, it is getting issue like
R ]" CAM-CRP-1132 An error occurred while attempting to request a certificate from the Certificate Authority service. An error occurred while attempting to request a certificate from the Certificate Authority service."
when I try to save the configuration.

IN cognos server configuration, It is getting error like

Ok....

You should start from server only. Once server starts sucessfully FM will also start.

I did some google, everywhere I am finding the solution like reconfigure the whole things again.

Did you try the below option after renaming the constarup.xml file ?
Copying the all contents of saved configuration from file menu into the cogstarup.xml file ? this will ensure that you have cogstarup.xml file while starting the configuration.

I am assuming after following the above link you are getting this error.

Found in some forum, after renaming below two files can resolve this error.
caSerial (if exist) and cogconfig.prefs files in the configuration directory

But not sure...anyways we dont have any other option rather than giving try....please do not delete any file....take backup of any file for which you are making the changes.

Did you try this also ?

rename files caSerial (if exist) and cogconfig.prefs files in the configuration directory

Keep reinstalltion as a last option.

I didn't do anything after you said the steps.
Because the cognos configuration is not appeared after cloick ok to the error message.
So, I am still worrying how can I backup those files and save the configuration.

If once the took the backup files and when i try to open the cognos configuration then it will open then we can have option to save and restart the server again,,

But, now the issue is can't access to cognos configuration.

so, do you want me to do all the steps even if the cognos configuration is not appeared.?

Today, my environment seems to be stable :) ....seem like users went for holidays...hence I dont have much work ;)  so if possible we can give try for other issue also :)

Here is the new issue,

Trying to test the content store , geeting error like

Content Manager is unable to connect to the content store. Verify that the database connection properties in the configuration tool are correct and that when you test the connection, the test is successful.

please let me know the idea you have...

This is bit strange...if its testing successfully then it should connect also...

Which DB you are using as content store. Please check if domain name or somethin else need to be added to the DB server name or schema name.

Also try to ping Db server from the cognos server, check if its happening or not.
If its oracle DB try to do the TNS ping for the schema.

@sunosoft - We are using Microsoft Sql server as content store.
But, you know, earlier I was working fine with that. Now, it showing up error like "Content Manager is unable to connect to the content store. Verify that the database connection properties in the configuration tool are correct and that when you test the connection, the test is successful.

I am keep trying to resolve that issue..

BTW, please let me know, if u have any idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happens if you create a new database in SQL Server and point your Cognos instance to this as the content store? Does it initialize properly and give you a working instance?

Yes Sunosoft,

  I noticed that because of admin privileges problem.
If I changed the instance number then it tested successfully. So, I will try to get admin privilleges and resolve the Issue.

BTW, After created AD name space and give access to user to access the package, you know some times the BI welcome page is taking longer time to open and  sometimes working fine. I don't have any idea..I will send you the error from log file..

Hi,

Let's try a third time. How is your configuration defined? You still haven't given us any information about how your environment URIs are configured. It looks suspiciously like you have defined a standby content manager which isn't present, but we can't know this because you still haven't told us how you set things up. Can you detail how you have defined your configuration?

We have installed the FM and Cognos server in two different server.
Server A has content store as Microsoft Sql server DB type and host and port is localhost:1433
Gateway URI is cognos.cgi

Server B has content store as Microsoft Sql server DB type and host and port is <Server A Name>:instance number.
Gateway URI is cognosisapi.dll

Whenever I restart the the SERVER A I am getting Issue like
09:38:31, CM-REQ-2378 A request was received to start the negotiation process to determine which Content Manager instance should become active.

This info is not sufficient.

Where exactly you have configured your content manager ?

seems like you have all three components(CM,dispacther,gateway) in the same location.

How you want to use these two servers ? Both servers for the same env ? or one for one env and other for other env ?

Can you clarify what you mean by "Server B has content store as Microsoft Sql server DB type and host and port is <Server A Name>:instance number." Which of these is true?

a) in Cognos Configuration on Server B you have the Content Manager URI set to http://serverA:9300/p2pd/servlet (within Environment) and you have no Content Store configuration or
b) in Cognos Configuration on Server B you have the Content Manager URI set to http://serverB:9300/p2pd/servlet and the Content Store config set to ServerA:1433 and pointing to the same physical database used by ServerA's Content Store?

Option a) would be correct. Option b) is absolutely, categorically, emphatically, disastrously wrong :)

Here, the localhost tends to Server A
Server B(Windows Server): In congos Configuration

Environment ->Gateway URI-  cognosisapi.dll
Here, the localhost tends to Server B.

2)In IE, if I type in the URL like http://server A/ibmcognos ->then it works in all clients and users server.
But If I type like http://server B(which means localhost)/ibmcognos ->then it works in only on Server B and Not working on any server.

So we are using this http://server A/ibmcognos in everywhere.

Please let me know, what I have to do exactly now?
