Title: Any advice for Cognos Windows Servers update
Post by: Jiayue.lin on 09 May 2013 02:44:41 AM
Hi all,

The background is that so far we are using Cognos 10.1 on Windows 2003 server. Recently they will upgrade Windows 2003 servers to Windows 2008 servers 64bit.

I hope to know how we can limit the impact on Cognos to lowest level, very appreciate if you can give some advices.

Thanks
Lin

2008 (R2) is basically a lesson in annoyance coming from 2003.  Enhanced security is (1) and  IIS 7.x is the second big change. Cognos is still not fully 64bit , so some settings indicate enabling 32bit.    IIS is the biggest drag in setting up.  With IIS6 this was a 30 second operation,  IIS 7.x warrants thorough practicing, though after some 10 installs I can manage within 10 minutes.  For the life of me , I can't fathom how and why MS manages to compromise a decent version with a back-braking 'sophisticated' piece of annoyance as a follow-up. Are they doing this on purpose?
