Title: C8 and Planning 8.1 On Same Server
Post by: kazanec on 19 Apr 2007 08:31:24 AM
Hi,

I'm looking at getting both C8 BI and Planning and putting them on the same server. My current 7.3 server (PPES) is a 2.8GHz dual-processor with 4GB of RAM. Would this be sufficient enough to run both products? Should I be looking at a completely new server or should I have both products on separate servers? I'm not familiar with how much resources the Planning product takes up and am concerned that adding it, as well as the additional features of 8 BI, would be too much for my existing server to handle.

Thanks.

Contributor job processing (publishes, reconciles) can consume 100% of CPU cycles for each core assigned (not chip, but core - thing to watch with the multi-core chips now).  Memory allocated is determined by model size and allocated per thread, and cannot be governed (if a thread needs 1 GB, it will either grab 1GB or fail). By default, a thread is launched per core

Recommendations are to split to separate servers when possible.  Loading to the same server works acceptably only for the smallest implementations (think very small).
