Title: Categories dont refresh in Trasnformer
Post by: dssd on 16 Oct 2012 05:06:33 PM
I have a dimension in the transformer for which i have generated categories. I changed my source value for the level and generated the categories. I either get duplicates, old and new categories. How do i get rid of the old and only have the new ones?

if i deelete the dimension and build it again then i get only the new ones. but, that is very tedious

You can try using the clean house tool or you can open the category viewer and manually remove categories.

I had just recently built the categories so they are new. I assume clean house wouldnt work and remove the older categories. Also, there are 100s of categories so manually removing them wouldnt work either. Is this normal?

If you use clean house and select tomorrow (or any future date) as the date it will clean everything.

I recommend you do a generate categories every time you build the cube to pick up new categories. If you are automating the cube builds using batch files, add -c to the options on the cogtr.exe command.

Normally you do not change the source of your levels, so I am thinking you will not have this problem going forward. Also, on the key level for each dim, I would have "Unique" and "Move" options checked under the Categories group on the level properties. This will help Transformer resolve changes.
