Title: Import in Contributor Admin
Post by: Cm on 09 Mar 2007 05:43:25 PM
Hi,

I did an import of a tab separted text file in Contributor Admin Console. After that I did prepare data block and then Go to Production. But even after this, i am not able to see the uploaded data in Contributor We Client. None of the steps gave me any error.

Am i missing some step here ? Please help.

Thanks
Cm

If you don't see any data in your IM_cubename table, your copy, load, and prepare did not work.  Errors are written to the IE_cubename table.  Also, make sure your application is tied to a job server or your job will not processed.  Hope this helps.

I am able to see the data in im_cubename table and more over there are no records in ie_cubename tables.

The application is also tied to a job server.

It probably is an issue with your database client tools since you cannot convert the table to xml.  I'd start there.

After running PrepareImport and prior to running a GTP, does the Admin Console show that there are rows in the datablocks?  (Select the Prepared Data Blocks tab)  If there is no detail here, then the import was not successful.

There are four tabs when you Import data in Contributor

Copy  | Load | Prepare Import | Prepared Data Blocks

Copy, Load, Prepare Import to bring in the data.  Make sure the PrepareImport job completes.

Once this job is done, and before you run GoToProduction, go to the Prepared Data Blocks tab.  If there is nothing on this screen, then your import was not successful.

Yes, the 'prepare data block' tab shows me the correct no of records. One more thing. The application is locked now. Does it affect the import process ? I guess it does not.

I do not remember if locked nodes affect the import process.  I would not recommend making any assumptions in this case.  If you run the GoToProduction and your data is not there, then I believe you have your answer.

You said the app is locked. I'm assuming this means your nodes are all Submitted, in which case it looks like you can't import data to a node that has been submitted.  I don't know that for sure, but that would be my guess.

Ya, i meant locked node only. But i confirmed that upload can be still done.

I don't follow: what does "i confirmed that upload can be still done" mean?

I meant the Import can be still done even if the node is locked.

Nodestate has no bearing on the ability to run an import.  That would only come into play (if at all) during Reconcile.  Elists-specific settings would only be available during the Reconcile, not PrepareImport phase.

That is why i have no clue where the things has gone wrong.  Everythings seems ok but still it does not work.

Reset your elist items to Not Started and try again

Reset nodes: It's an option in the Go To Production dialog.

Thanks. But I may not be able reset the elists since its a production environment.

By the way, i have one more query. How to remove a Publish Datastore from the list  available now (used for publish) ? One publish datastore was already created some times back and it was incorrectly configured. I want to remove that.

Just call Cognos Support and do a webex with them.

You can remove only in 8.1.
Contr. administration 8.1 > tools > maintenance > validate publ cont.
I think there are no ways to remove Publish Datastore if it doesnt help. Just creat new PAD =).

Also, elist statement doesnââ,¬â,,¢t have effect to import data.
