Title: Cognos Upgrade from 8.4 to 10 Server Considerations
Post by: nfldbunker on 31 Aug 2012 11:13:03 AM
HI

Currently our cognos platform consists of version 8.4 and all modules installed on one server. There is only one instance of 8.4.1 which supports but development and production.  The content store is stroed on another SQL server.  We currently have propble 40-50 constant users mostly consumers comuning reports and a coulpe of report developers, etc. We have recently purchased up to 200 more licenses and will be putting a bigger push on getting data into cognos for analysis.

I have been tasked with setting up a new cogns 10.1.1 platform on a new VM server. Just wondering if anyone has some good suggestions, documentation, and or some personal insght on how i should setup the new cognos 10.1.1 platform. Over the next year we are hoping to have a 150 users working with cognos for our organization.

I have the cognos 10.1 installation and config guide but what would the experts suggest. Should i seperate the cognos components onto different servers such as the main application on 1 , report server on another.

I have many more questions but if anyone has any insight, feedback and or guidelines etc would be greatly appreciated

regards

bunker

Cognos 10 requires substantially more memory and for 150 users, I would not suggest to use a VM. A physical machine with multiple processors would be ideal.

I had installed 8.3 for a company that had around the same no. of users and I did a distributed install.

1> BI Server on App server
2> Content Store on database server
3> Gateway on a Web server

It was working fine.
