Hello,
I am new to Cognos Framework Manager.
I have downloaded trial version of Cognos 10 and samples.
when I opened the sample cpf...I could see 2 packages...analysis and query in Framework manager
why 2 packages are created?
Also when you publish a package and edit it later and try to publish ...will it override ? or how to handle it.
Any help appreciated
I would encourage you to invest in the course on Framework Manager if at all possible. Preparing a proper model is such an important part of a BI project -- all reporting downstream will benefit or suffer based on decisions made by the modeler.
You should also go through the user guide.

I was following the IBM Redbook and followed step by step to create cpf project files. Had a little understanding on Filters and determinants tested them a bit. understood the layers (Phy Bus Presentation)
But what I wanted to do is replicate the sample cpf that was provided by Cognos 10 (not the redbook)
I may be wrong, but I think query is related to relational.....and analysis may be related to dimensional.
I am thinking about training...but a few leads upfront can be of great help.
I would also highly recommend training, it will save you much frustration.
You are correct about the separate packages in the sample. One is relational and one is dimensional. Keeping them separate is a good idea. Dimensional and Relational reporting styles are completely different.

As far as publishing packages, you have the option of using versioning when you publish. If you do not use versioning, when you publish you will overwrite the existing package (assuming you publish to the same location) and all reports will immediately use the new version. If you use versioning, then after publishing a new package, any existing reports will still use the old package version until it is opening in report studio and updated to use the new package.
