Title: Sorting issue on union with Stored procedure query subjects
Post by: arroju_venkat on 07 Aug 2012 10:08:40 AM
Hi,

I applied union, in Cognos 8.4,  on 2 queries (stored procedure query subjects) in report studio.

Dynamic sorting is applied using 2 prompts, in such a way, one prompt is to select a column to be sorted and another prompt is to select order of sorting : ASC/DESC.

Applying dynamic sorting on individual queries is working fine, but not working on union query.

Union query, irrespective of prompt selection, is being sorted  based on first column in ascending order only,

Please help me here ASAP.

Have you tried going into your union query in the Query Explorer, selecting the item you want to sort on, and setting the sort property of it from there?

Just a thought,

MF.

Yes. It is working, if I applied sorting on a selected column in union query, in Query Explorer, by setting data item property.

But sorting  is not working on union query using prompts, still issue is not resolved.

What is it about that "ASAP" directive that people use when asking for help that irritates me so?

I created a union query and added prompts for the user to select the sort column and sort direction and it works fine for me. I didn't use stored procedure query subjects for the base queries, but a union would be performed locally anyway so I'm not sure that difference is relevant.

You don't describe anything about how you went about implementing the dynamic aspects, so perhaps the problem lies there. If you describe your approach then perhaps more specific help can be offered.

ASAP? Doesn't it stand for As Slowly As Possible? :) If it irritates you, you must be the type of person who likes things done quickly? :)

Cranky old bat?? Hmmm... Not a description I would ever have associated with you. If ever you're in the UK, I will be sure to put my super-fast running shoes on :)
