Title: Upgrading Cognos 8.4 to Cognos 10 using the Content Manager Upgrade ?
Post by: Ucat on 18 Jun 2012 12:48:58 PM
Please,

I have been looking for information about the Content Manager Upgrade method to migrate from Cognos 8.4 to Cognos 10. It seems to be a database related operation and it depends on the brand of the Database.

Is there a guide or tutorial describing the necessary steps and preparations to perform a Content Manager Upgrade ?
Has anyone tried this method successfully ?

Hi,

Export entire content manager from Cognos 8 and then import to
cognos 10 and make a new database for content manager in any database.

There are lots of good resources for upgrading from Cognos 8 to Cognos 10 on the IBM website. The main link is here:

From my experiences, if you try to perform a Content Store Export via Cognos Administration it will fail unless the Content Store is small. Cognos will slow to a crawl or in cases of large content store crash completely. Your best option to upgrade the Content Store is to do so upon startup of Cognos after the new version is fully installed.
