I am facing a problem in running a report in excel format in Cognos. When run with small data , it runs fine. But when the data it large, it pops up the prompt to save or open the report and when I click on either of them the tab closes and nothing happens. Please suggest what could be the issue and how it could be resolved
Keep the Ctrl Tab pressed and see if that works. If not, check the number of rows it is returning. Excel has a higher limit after which it usually puts the data into the next Tab but that fails sometimes.
I keep pressed the ctrl button but it didn't work. I guess the ctrl button resolution works if we have a browser related issue, but if there is such issue , my other reports wouldn't have been working. So I guess its not the browser or popup issue. Correct me if my observation is wrong.
Now , yes my report takes around 100000 records and it comes in two tabs. It could be that issue but it happens everytime. So I think thios shouldn't happen everytime that it fails to break the report in two tabs.
Someone told me that we need to press the save\open option in the prompt as soon as the prompt comes because if within 2-3 minutes we didn't select any option , it didn't work. Could that be a issue?
Today I clicked the open button as and when the prompt to open or save report appears, then it downloaded the report but couldn't open it . A dialog box appears saying....
"Excel found unreadable content in 'filename.xlsx' file. Do you want to recover the content of the file?If you trust the source of this workbook , Click yes."
...........then I clicked yes. After that another dialog box appears saying...
"Excel can not open the file 'filename.xlsx' because the file format or file extention is not valid.Varify that the filename is not been corrupted and the file extention matches the format of the file."
I tried to save the report ...the report downloaded and saved on my local but when I try to open , it gives me the same error message.
Please suggest.
