Analyst displays an error on startup

win 2008 x32 24gb ram cognos 8.4 sql 2005
setting any size the workspace it always use only the half
does anybody know how to fix it?

I have already reduced the Maximum server memory for sql
didn't help

This is a pre-allocate of memory workspace for Analyst.  Analyst is a 32-bit app so you have those limits.

Depending on settings, it also may be setting aside half the workspace for undo.

There's nothing to fix here.  Default settings for moderately sized models is 256000.   Big ones move to 512000, and anything over that should be done on a case-by-case basis.  The largest I've personally seen is 768000 and that was wobbly in its stability (don't know if it's still true but one time memory allocation needed to be contiguous address space)

Your brief spec suggests this is on the server.  If the users are not logging into the server to do modeling work, set it to 256000 and leave it be.  Otherwise, if they use the server and you have large Analyst models, try 512000.  If that is not enough, try 768000
