Title: Planning 10 client against Planning 8.4 applications?
Post by: MellBI on 09 Nov 2011 03:05:53 AM
Hi,

Anyone that knows if it is possible to run the Planning 10 client in a environment with 8.4?
Is there any disadvantages?

Reason for asking is that we have some problems wit Win 7 clients and Planning 8.4.
There is not time right now for a total upgrade.

Hi Mell,

Yes it is possible and is documented in the 10.1 Planning release notes.  It indicates that you must uninstall the 8.4 framework and client prior to installing the 10.1 client pieces.  After the 10.1 pieces are installed you can install the 8.4 Contributor piece (not the framework).

The reason for the juggling is due to the need for the 8.4 client to run on the 10.1 framework.

I'll update with a link to the release notes.

Hi,

I just read the Release Notes and as far as I understand those, i need to install Contributor 8.4 client after installing 10.1 client if I would like to work with 8.4 applications.

Release notes: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/cfpm/v10r1m0/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.swg.im.cognos.rdm_cpl.10.1.0.doc%2Frdm_cpl_id560IBMCognos8PlanningContributor.html

Anyone who know if it is OK to use 8.4 client for those who have no problems and then install 10.1 only to those who have problems.
(Just until we have the time to instll and test 10.1)

Hey,

I think the recommendation would be to follow the document for all users that require this setup.  However, you can address only the affected users first and if you find that more and more are running into problems you can address them as they pop up or update everyone together.

The only thing is that the 8.4 machines accessing 10.1 aren't technically supported unless the install is performed as indicated.  So if other odd issues start occurring on an 8.4 only machine, update it using the release notes information to see if the problem persists.
