Title: Cube size issue
Post by: Amritha on 11 Oct 2011 08:14:43 AM
Hi All,

I am facing an issue with the size of the cube.

Size of the present cube is 1.5 million cells with out e-list and it is working till now.

But, now user wants to add 2 more dimensions to the existing cube.

1 first dimension consists of 60 items and second one 45 items.

Now, total size of the cube is around 3 billion cells.

Can anyone tell ...How to achieve or resolve this issue.

Please its urgent.

Thanks,
Amrith

Amritha,

The size of the cube is determined by:

dimension 1 members x dimension 2 members x dimension 3 members, etc..
Eg:

100 members x 100 members x 600 members = 6,000,000

I can tell you from experience that you want to keep the cell count for a cube below 40 - 50 million cells otherwise you will not be able to open the full selection, only slices.

The user will have to re-think the design requirements to make them fit.  Creating smaller dimensions with smaller subsets of the main dimensions in new cubes might be one way..

Maybe someone else has some thoughts..

Hi Amritha,

I'd just throw in... you're talking about 'the' cube.  Try splitting the model into more than one cube around conceptual tasks, eg one for expense planning, a couple for sales planning, one for cashflows.  Try to change the conversation to a consultative 'return to what the business needs to achieve' question rather than a 'how do we make EP follow these specific technical demands' question, you might even see a real speedup from focusing the model too.
