Title: Unable to access service at URL [FM Error Msg]

Hi all,

I've installed cognos 8 ReportNet Server in the location E:\PROGRAM FILES\COGNOS\C8. The Cognos Connection is opening without any problem.

Later I've installed Cognos 8 BI Modelling Tool in the location E:\PROGRAM FILES\COGNOS\C8\FM. Installation is successful. When I try to create a model using Framework Manager, I'm getting the following error message

Unable to access service at URL:
http://localhost:80/cognos8/cgi-bin/cognos.cgi?b_action=xts.run&m=portal/close.xts
Please check that your gateway URI information is configured correctly and that the service is available.
For further information please contact your service administrator.


I'm not able to resolve this problem. I've gone through the installation documentation and found some notes for this error, but couldn't understand it.

Anybody please help me in solving this problem and able to work with FM properly.

Do I need to make any changes in the Cognos Configuration....

I think you haven't configured the virtual directories which needs to be done AFTER the installation. The installation manual has step-by-step instructions. You will also need a database to be used a s a content store.

I should've told you this before.
I've configured the virtual directories and i'm able to open Cognos Connection.
I've MSSQLServer installed and configured in the Cognos Configuration. After that when i try to create a model using FM, then i'm getting this problem.

I tried in all the possible ways, but couldn't able to rectify the problem. I uninstalled both FM & ReportNet and tried to install it again.... now i'm not even able to connect to the cognos connection...
My system is WindowsXP Professional with 2GB RAM, with MSSQLServer installed in it....
Can you tell me the detailed procedure of the installation & configuration of the ReportNet Server Components, Web Server(IIS), & the FrameworkManager......
Previously i tried to install it through the documentation provided along with the software, but not able to succeed....
Do me the needful....
