Title: Publish a pdf to Cognos Connection
Post by: david.stachon on 26 Jul 2011 10:42:44 AM
Hi,

Has anyone had any experience on "publishing" .pdf documents into Cognos Connection?

..an SDK thing perhaps?

(basically, I'm looking for the same type of thing as you get with "Go! Office" in that you can publish an excel, word, or powerpoint document into the Cognos Connection portal)

NOTE: I want to avoid "links" because I want security all maintained in one spot (as opposed to having to maintain security on a separate http server as well)

thanks,
david.

Hi there

This is a regular occurrance for us in that we have set up a schedule to push reports to a specificly created folder for pdf's per department.
We also have another folder for Excel and CSV
They are basically static reports

Or are you asking whether you can externally create a pdf and publish this into Cognos?  If this is the case then the Cognos Portal is not able to accommodate this scenario.
The only way you would be able to do this is via an RSS feed or iframe URL.

Cheers
Peter

I have not found a way to do this, but it would be nice to put PDF's out in Cognos Connection, particularly since that would allow us the ability to make the portal a one-stop-shop for all things Cognos.  We could have user access request forms and other client specific documentation in the portal, available to all users.

okay, I figured out a way to do this...

Have Go! Office installed...

...create an empty powerpoint, and drop and embedded .pdf into the powerpoint.

...publish the PowerPoint to Cognos Connection.

(not totally elegant, but does the trick)
