Title: Account dimension hierarchy
Post by: Sam2011 on 15 Jul 2011 11:13:44 AM
Hi all,
Has anyone built an account dimension hierachy using Framework manager? I am trying to build a hierarchy that map the income Statement hierarchy to the lowest GL level.
The problem I have is I have 5 different companies with 5 different income stat hierarchy. I wonder how the account dimension will look like in this case if the user need to drill up and down to each income Stat without the need to see the entire hierarchy for all companies.
To illustrate:
Company1-->Expense-->Salaries,rent,travel
company2-->Expense>Salaries-Managr, salaries-staff,rent, travel domestic, travel oversees

As u can see, company 2 has different hierarchy under expense level

Thanks in advance

A Dimension can have multiple hierarchies... just create as many as you need to represent the necessary hierarchies that exist within the company.  Name them based on their intended purpose/consumer.

Beyond that, an MDM solution is the best place to manage hierarchies and then Cognos can simply subscribe to that.  This works the best, in my experience, rather than trying to source the hierarchies from multiple systems.
