i am new with cognos, i want to know how can i add a message like "no data found" or something like that, in case that there are no data in the report.
right now, when i choose in the prompt wrong year i get blank page.

Are you using Report Studio? If so, you can navigate to the highest level of your layout container (list or crosstab or whatever) and set the "No Data Contents" property to "Yes". This will allow you to put whatever content you'd like to appear when no data is returned by the query.
