Title: Cognos8 performance issues??
Post by: cogSteve on 27 May 2011 10:36:06 AM
Hi all -- 1st off this is a great group here. Lots of knowledge!

Having a few problems this morning logging into our cognos8 production system. Users have been complaining they get prompted to login where they shouldn't (we have single signon set up).

As an adminstrator, I noticed I got prompted as well, and couldn't even get in the gate when i entered valid credentials. I waited 15 mins, and got in w/o being prompted tho it was very slowwww. There were 8 users on the system. When I went to check 'Current Activities' I got a little yellow error box saying it couldn't show webpage or something. I've since logged out and cant log in again.

I'm going to do a reboot of the Cog8 service over lunch as its been a while and am hoping this might help clear things up...

Any ideas on what might be causing this?? Anyone had this type of thing ...

thx,
Steve

Hi Steve,

What is the operating system on which Cognos has been installed?
What is the operating system of the web server?

Assuming IIS, have a look at the event viewer application logs.  Have you created a separate application pool for the C8 instance on the web server.
As a first step, I'd reboot the web server.
Check the event viewer logs for any errors.
On IIS, if you have created a separate application pool for Cognos I'd do that as a matter of priority and restart the application pool again.

If you want to trouble shoot issues with web servers and gateways, you cant go passed fiddler
http://www.fiddler2.com/fiddler2/
I use this quite extensively as its one of the core utilities I have in my toolkit.
See how you go
Cheers

If it's a virtual server, make sure you're getting adequate resources from the hosting platform.
