Title: TM1 dimension to capture string data
Post by: hydrojoe on 26 Apr 2011 10:00:25 AM
Greetings everyone

First time poster, relatively new to TM1. Is it possible/good business practices to allow for users to input in string data into a dimension in a cube? An example, would be for financial forecasting purposes the user could enter in their forecasted dollar amount in a specific dimension, then have a separate dimension that would allow them to type in a short comment.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Hydrojoe,
You are welcome.
Anyways, My comments are, yes you can have strings in the dimension to let users input the additional information in the cube and which can be use effectively in further analysis.
However it is better to have the Picklist formatted elements for entering such string data so that manual typing errorrs can be eliminated.
And one more caution that is required to take is that, if such dimensions has to be kept last in the dimension ordering while creating the cube.
