Title: Which upgrade to do?
Post by: RickC on 22 Mar 2011 09:36:19 AM
We are 8.4.1 users for Analyst and Contributor (do not use BI).  We were going to "upgrade" to the latest 8.4 (8.4.2 I think) but are now looking at Cognos 10.

Do you guys have a preference of one over the other?
Is going from Cognos 8 to 10 an easy transition (and I am assuming 8.4.1 to 8.4.2 is easy)?

Sorry, I think I got my numbers wrong in my original post.

We are using Version 8.4.27.80 which means we are not yet using 8.4.1.

Anyway, question is, latest version of Cognos 8 or go to Cognos 10?

There are some performance features in 10.1 Contributor that you might be interested in. The old Contributor grid is completely gone and there is a new node download to PC strategy that should improve web performance.  Job performance improves considerably so I will be junking excess job servers (obsolete DL 360's) that I will no longer need with 10.1.  Otherwise 10.1 is very much a BI release.

Definitely go with 8.4.1 for the compatibility with Windows 7 PC's for Analyst and Contributor.
