hi all,
in which scenario we use star schema modelling and in which situation we use snowflake schema?

The idea is to use FM modelling to reduce a snowflake to a starschema by merging the 1st and 2nd layer making sure the fact is 'surrounded' by dimensional query subjects. (1 level deep)

It is not a matter of applying one of both models. In fact Cognos seems to have little problem with neat snowflakes. If you can reduce , then by all means do so. The model will be more intuitive and you can use the starschema wizard
