Create a system DSN on the machine where FM resides.
Use the Microsoft Excel driver for this and make sure the workbook has only one worksheet.
Make sure the first row in the worksheet contains the column names.

In Cognos create a new ODBC datasource and point this to the name of your DSN
(i.e. set ODBC datasource to the name of the DSN)

Now import the source using the FM metadata wizard as if you were importing from a database

Thank you very much for your reply sir,
I have one more doubt, also the office needs to be installed in the machine where framework manager is installed.

I tried the above steps but  test connection failed is displayed after testing the connection, I want to know whether this error occurs because office is not installed on my pc or something else,
and What value must be selected for ODBC Connect string.

hi,

In addition to blom0344 steps

1. You should leave the connection string blank
2. You must have excel drivers installed
3. You should select all cells in excel sheet, right click on it and select 'Name a Range'
4. I am not sure if you need to install excel on same system, but i think only excel drivers will do
