Title: Using Access Manager with 64 Bit Content Manager?
Post by: smadanek on 08 Mar 2011 03:18:41 PM
Can you run a 64 Bit Content Manager Server and a separate 32 bit Access Manager LDAP server in the same environment and still use the Access Manager LDAP as a namespace for security. I know many will reply, why would you want to. But, replacing the LDAP is a significant issue with over 1500 users and 22 K user classes.

thx

hi there

I'm assuming you mean you are using the Oracle SunOne Directory server and Series 7 Accesss Manager.  Both will run on a 64 bit operating system under the 32 bit operating system program folder.

Its actually a pretty common issue and is under investigation where I work.

Remember that the only component that is truely 64 bit in Cognos is the CAM which is part of the Content Manager.  The Gateway and dispatcher (application tier) is still 32 bit.

Although its not supported (really really grey area in Support), you can distribute the components to separate folders on a 64 bit os as
gw folder (32 Bit)
app tier folder (32 bit)
CM folder (64 bit)

Hope this helps

Actually I plan to leave the Sun One LDAP/Series 7 Access Manager install on a 32 bit server by itself.

I am loooking forward to replacing my 32 Bit Wintel Content Manager server with a 64 bit server to remove the 2 gb memory limitations of 32 bit processing. Eventually I will upgrade the 9 report server/dispatchers as well.

Currently I do not have the LDAP in 10.1 or 8.3 running on the same server as the content manager. Using normal TCP/IP connections to port 369 should isolate the LDAP, I would think.  In this configuration will it work with a CAM on a separate 64 Bit Wintel Server?

Hi Ken,

SunOne can be installed any where you like regardless of the C8 installation being on 32 or 64 bit.  I've played with enough installations to be certain this will work.
As mentioned before, the only part of the c8 install that is 64 bit is the Content Manager.  The rest is 32 bit.

Let me know how you get on.
