Hi,

Is it ok to install cognos 8.4 32 bit on windows server 2008 64bit?

It's ok. Mention that you have to use 32bit database drivers/clients too.
If you use Windows and ODBC then you have to use
Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe instead Windows\System32\odbcad32.exe to configure ODBC.

Would windows server 2008 32bit be better than windows server 2008 64 bit for cognos 8.4 32 bit?

Let's say, I think there is no real disadvantage running 32bit cognos with windows 64bit server.

Win2008 R2 is only 64-bit, by the way

I would choose to go for x64 OS in combination with x86 Cognos software (all components). This makes it easier for future upgrades...
